Humans are beings of meaning and we like to understand why we do things and moreover, if the purpose of what we do aligns with <\/span><b>our own personal purposes in life and with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voxelgroup.net\/blog\/en\/8m-we-are-celebrating-international-womens-day\/\">our values<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What would we do if we became aware of the negative impact (on other people, on society or on the planet) of our work at a company?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If we had the opportunity, would we move to another company where a conscious effort is made to have a positive impact?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have written three articles describing how <\/span><b>a company can also be a place for <\/b><b>personal development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, why this is so and its benefits. This can occur <\/span><b>when the value contribution is highly focused, paradoxically, on the customer and the company&#8217;s shareholders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but where employees are placed in a very low priority.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1689073454710{margin-top: 30px !important;margin-right: 40px !important;margin-bottom: 30px !important;margin-left: 40px !important;}&#8221;]<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11905 alignleft\" style=\"margin-bottom: 65px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voxelgroup.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Recurso-4-8.png\" alt=\"quotes\" width=\"29\" height=\"21\" \/> <i><span class=\"quotesPost\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is key for collaborators to be aligned in terms of values, that they possess the necessary skills and are motivated<\/span><\/i>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some companies are aware of the importance of having their <\/span><b>collaborators culturally aligned and sufficiently motivated <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(their productivity will increase between 20% and 50% or more<sup>1<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fact that there is an alignment of values in addition to collaborators having the necessary skills provides predictability and trust. This allows us to develop what we call \u201cA-Player\u201d, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cthe right person in the right seat\u201d<sup>2<\/sup><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given that these aspects are key factors of ensuring customers receive a better service, investing in these will result in greater economic profits, part of which can be reinvested in the workers and thus improve their wellbeing. If the goal is simply to make more money, then ethically questionable things may happen, since, paradoxically, the destruction of social and environmental value, on occasions, is highly profitable.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n<div style=\"background: #FFF4EB; border-radius: 20px; padding: 35px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s think, for example, about the social and environmental costs generated by fast fashion. This business model, with a highly contaminating production, creates clothing that expires mentally much sooner than the materials used to make them. Moreover, their production is commonly located in countries that are far away from where the clothes is sold, with the aim of reducing costs and become more profitable at the expense of working conditions that are often precarious.<\/span><\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<b>The concept of profitability has been perverted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the fact that the price of the products we consume does not incorporate the collateral impact of what business schools refer to as <\/span><b>externalities <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(aspects over which the company does not consciously want to feel responsible for). Under a global perspective, <\/span><b>instead of creating more value for society, it is destroyed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as the side effects of the business model on people outside the company, on society or the environment are not taken into account. <\/span><b>In this dynamic, we consider that this virtuous circle of value generation is incomplete<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, we can reach a <\/span><b>paradox where a company has people who are highly motivated, but develops a product that has many negative implications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For example, it might favor a situation where people go through rough times (e.g., working or health conditions), push to create a more unequal society or pollute the planet, worsen climate change, exploit natural resources in a manner that destroys ecosystems, biodiversity and even local communities\u2026 All of this, against the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United Nations&#8217; Sustainable Development goals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SDG)<sup>4<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To avoid this situation, company leadership can ask itself: <\/span><b>What kind of impact do I want to have in my life?
