The government established connections with the tax agency through SdI\u2014for domestic transactions\u2014and the<em> <strong>esterometro<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u2014for cross-border invoices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the new legislation, Italy will abolish the <em>esterometro<\/em> in order to unify transmissions with the Agenzia delle Entrate. <strong>As of the 1st January 2022, all taxpayers will have to transmit all their invoices to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agenziaentrate.gov.it\/portale\/web\/english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agenzia delle Entrate<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>via SdI.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although the transmission channel will change, <strong>the schedule will remain the same.<\/strong> Taxpayers will have 12 days from the date of the transaction to send invoice details to the Tax Agency. In the case of cross-border transactions, the deadline will be the 15th of the month following the day of the transaction.<\/p>\n<p>As a consequence of this modification, the Tax Agency will be able to prepare the drafts for VAT returns more precisely.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Italy, a pioneer in electronic invoicing in Europe<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Italy was the first, and so far the only country in Europe, to adopt an electronic invoice <em>clearance<\/em> model.<\/strong> Following the approval of the <em>Legge di Bilancio 2018<\/em>, on the 1st of January, 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voxelgroup.net\/blog\/en\/electronic-invoice-is-obligatory-in-italy-since-january-1st-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mandatory electronic B2B invoicing came into force<\/a>. Electronic B2G invoicing has been mandatory since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The government took stock after the end of the first year of mandatory electronic B2B and B2G invoicing. According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgs.mef.gov.it\/VERSIONE-I\/attivita_istituzionali\/previsione\/contabilita_e_finanza_pubblica\/rapporto_sulle_entrate_tributarie_e_contributive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MEF-RGS report<\/a>, <strong>thanks to electronic invoicing, Italy collected 2.5% more in taxes in 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Simplified SdI transmission<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The introduction of mandatory electronic invoicing in Italy was a headache for some businesses.
